Some Connections

Like a hug in sadness
Or soup in winter,
Some connections
Nourish the inner aching part of us,
Diffusing their tonic warmth to soul level:
Two children of like ages,
Caught up in that enchantment
Which magnifies distance
And makes of backwoods a dreamscape;
A pair of would-be lovers,
Hands to themselves
But with auras ablaze in psychic embrace;
Parent and scholarly offspring
On a side-roads European journey,
Rapt before lacy stonework of a cathedral font;
Or two childhood playmates
Reunited in middle age,
Tracing elusive rivulets of awareness
Lovingly back through the meanders of remember when...
